DESCRIPTION: The Khan Mohammadi rugs (also known as Khal Mohammadi) are beautiful rugs from Afghanistan. The Khan Mohammadi rugs share many of the same characteristics as other Afghani rugs which include the deep, rich colours, the geometric designs with the repeating gul pattern and the use of wool on wool weaving. What makes the Khan Mohammadi stand alone as the finest quality rug coming out of Afghanistan is the high quality wool used in their weaving and the high knot count of the rugs.
The rugs are named after Khal Mohammad, a Master Dyer and rug trader from Northern Afghanistan. Determined to show the world the skills of Afghani weavers, he opened several factories within the last 30 years throughout Northern Afghanistan. Very few rugs are named after people, which makes these so unusual as most rugs are named after the location it is woven in, or the tribe who weaves them. Khal Mohammad has used his skill as a Master Dyer to create rugs with colours that are unmatchable in depth and beauty. Although reds are a distinct and common colour among Afghani rugs, close inspection of Kahn Mohammadi rugs will show an assortment of deep red shades that gives these rugs amazing character and detail. The high-quality wool and low-cut pile makes these rugs extremely strong and durable.
